With the exception of some small domestic works any new building works are likely to require planning permission. Where they involve works to listed buildings there will also be a requirement for listed building consent. It is important to understand that listed building status also applies to the curtilage of the building, so a neighbour may require permission to alter a wall or fence, or even a building, if it forms part of that boundary. It is also important to realise that the grade of a listing makes no difference to when consents are required to work on a listed building.
